Set up right and plan ahead
Start-ups, Tax Planning and Business Advice
Going self-employed or setting up a company? We'll help you pick the right setup and plan your tax.
New trades and growing firms
What's involved
Whether you're picking up your first jobs on your own or you've got a crew and a yard, the right setup saves tax and headaches. We'll help you choose between sole trader and limited company, register with HMRC and plan the year so there's no January shock.
For new businesses we handle the registrations: HMRC, CIS, VAT if needed, Companies House, and a business bank account introduction.
For established firms we look at the year ahead: when to buy the van, how to take money out, whether to bring family into the business, and how to put money aside for tax.
If you're growing, buying another firm or taking on staff, we'll sit down with you and work out what it means for your numbers before you commit.
What to send us
- A rough idea of what you'll earn and spend in the first year
- Whether you'll work for other contractors, homeowners or both
- Any existing registrations with HMRC
- Questions. Lots of them. That's what we're for.
Deadlines we track
- Register as self-employed: by 5 October after the end of your first tax year
- Register for CIS: before you start subcontracting
